¡vámonos para la feria, cariño mío! let´s go to the fair, honey!

Hay una fiesta en España que lleva el nombre del mes presente. Se celebra en Sevilla y es conocida internacionalmente. Es la Feria de Abril.

Dicen que Sevilla tiene un color especial. Durante siete días es aún más colorida.

There is a party in Spain which takes the name of the current month. It is held in Seville, and it is known around the world. That is ‘La Feria de Abril’. As a song says, “Seville has a special colour”. For seven days, Sevilla becomes even more colorful.

La fiesta comienza con el encendido del alumbrado. Unas 237.000 bombillas iluminan El Real. Así es como se le llama a la zona donde se instalan las casetas, las dependencias donde la gente se reúne para comer, beber y bailar. Algunas casetas pertenecen a bares que se trasladan hasta la zona, otras son de asociaciones, empresas, y amigos que deciden tener su propio local para reunirse en la feria.

The fair starts with the inauguration and turning on of the lights of the Fair´s gate. About 237,000 light bulbs illuminate the ‘Real’, the place whit booths where people get together to eat, drink and dance. Some of them belong to pubs, organizations, companies, and also friends who decide to have their home in the epicenter of this party.

Para comer, no falta el jamón, el marisco, las aceitunas y todo lo bueno que hay en Andalucía, la región más grande de España. Sevilla es su capital.

To eat, you can taste ham, seafood, olives and all the good food we have in Andalucía, the largest region of Spain. Seville is the capital of Andalucía.

Para beber, los feriantes toman cerveza, vino o rebujito, una mezcla parecida al bunar que se puede degustar en Macedonia. Algunos, incluso, eligen ‘sangría’, pero, permítanme decirles, lejos de lo que todos los extranjeros piensan, que la sangría no es la bebida más común en España.

To drink, people choose beer, wine or ‘rebujito’. Rebujito is a mix similar to bunar (Macedonian drink). Also, some tourists choose ‘sangría’, but, let me say to you (contrary to popular belief) that sangría is not the most common drink in Spain.

Para bailar, las sevillanas, tan popular como el Oro en Macedonia. Las sevillanas se bailan en pareja. Sevillanas son también como se les llama a las mujeres de la capital de Andalucía. Durante estos días visten de forma especial: con el traje de flamenca.

To dance, the ‘sevillanas’, as popular as ‘oro’ in Macedonia. Sevillana is also the name given to the women from Seville. During these days, they dress up in the typical Spanish costume: ‘traje de flamenca’.

Coches de caballos, gente caminando, disfrutando y brindando inundan estos días Sevilla. La Feria de Abril se está celebrando esta semana. Dirá adiós el próximo domingo, para regresar en 2016, aunque Sevilla es preciosa todos los días del año. Antonio Gala dijo una vez: “Los sevillanos creen que tienen la ciudad más bonita del mundo, y lo peor es que puede que tengan razón”.

The streets are full of horse carriages and people. Crowds of people make a toast to the life and happiness. The Seville Fair is being held just now. At the end of this week, the biggest party will say ‘good bye’, but Seville is pretty beautiful every day of the year. Antonio Gala (a Spanish writer) once said, “The bad thing is not that the Sevillian ones think that they have the nicest city of the world…the worse thing is that it is possible that they have up to reason”.
