Visit to Pózar thermal baths

Pózar, is situated 110km from Thessaloniki at the foot of Kaimaktasalan.

In the area there are some beautiful streams running through, the better known stream is probably Avios Nikólaos (Saint Nicolas), locally known as Thermopótamos.

It was for this stream that we headed to Pózar. The idea of a 37º bath outside, in middle of luscious nature, sounded too soothing to resist. The location did not disappoint as the water was warm and the environment relaxing. There were plenty of people around, but it was still possible to relax and enjoy the place.

The thermal baths with the small, artificial, waterfall have a 2€ entrance fee and the big outdoor pool (also of thermal water) costs 3€. The 2€ bath is more enjoyable than the outdoor pool, even though you can swim around freely in the pool. And, if you don’t feel like paying to get in, there’s a very small area in between the two paid areas where you can take a thermal bath without any issues.

Don’t think that thermal baths are the only thing to do in Pózar. In the Pózar city there are number of establishment to stay, eat and drink. There’s even a local wine to try, Ksinómavro; a sour red from nearby Amínteo.

The outdoor pool in Pózar is open between 8:00 a.m. to 21:00 pm while the summer is open from 7:00 a.m. until 22:00 p.m. You can also go skiing in the Kaimaktsalan ski resort, visit prehistoric caves in Mt. Vóras Kaimáktsalan, walk through the nearby Dark Forest, go bird watching, and hiking in one of the many paths in the area.

There is plenty to do, so be sure to enjoy Pózar.
