The Festival of Cannes

Founded in 1946, this French Festival is taking place each year in Cannes (South of France) during 12 days.

Over the years, it has become the most broadcasted film festival in the world, especially during the climbing of stairs : the red carpet and their 24 « glory stairs ».  The Festival is also very criticized. It was plunged into many scandals which filled French or international magazines and newspapers.

Each year, movie makers, stars, professional cinematographers and thousand of journalists travel to Cannes. The producers here, can find a few partnerships to finance their movie projects and sell their works to the distributors and televisions from all the world.

At the beginning, this Festival was perceived as a simple tourist manifestation, offering some prizes for the best movie, the best director, the best actor / actress. Later, others awards were created like « le Prix du Jury », « le Grand Prix » and particulary « la Palme d’Or ».

In fact, the official selection wants to be the reflect of international cinematographic production. The competition generally uncovers the author’s cinema. The Festival of Cannes over the years has become one of the most important cinema ceremonies in the entire world. It is one of the first media and cultural international events.

The Festival acquired a notoriety which is founded on the balanced between artistic quality and their commercial impact. Among all the directors into the competition in Cannes, some of them were privileged by their art, their style or their genre. Among the « favourites » of the Festival, we can notice since theses 70 years : Pénélope Cruz, Juliette Binoche, Gérard Depardieu, Bruce Willis and Samuel L.Jackson.
