Our Turkish volunteer Abdullah talking about the Hearth of Culture: Southeastern Turkey

There is something that you cannot imagine before you visit.

This place was once called Mesopotamia – center of culture. Many years ago people built a temple there. The world’s civilization came from this very place (Gobekli tepe). That’s why it contains a unique atmosphere. Many nations (Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, Assyrian, Armenian and more), religions (Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Yezidies and more) live together. It’s a gateway to culture, where you can see much diversity of heritage.

Many people do not know about the history behind the culture that existed a couple hundred thousand years ago. It is simply a miracle to see so much in such a spectacular way. I myself am from Mesopotamia, but even I cannot imagine how those people built the cities we now live in. It has become a bridge of cultural diversity.

If  you wish to travel to Turkey, I think the first place to visit is Southeastern Turkey (ancient Mesopotamia). Wherever you are, you will see yourself inside the magnificent history. You will feel physical and psychological rest. That is why I  earnestly suggest that you visit this region-my home.

There are many historical cities inside southeastern Turkey. One of them, perhaps the greatest is my hometown, Mardin. We have been calling our city “the heart of culture.” You can see historical temples such as church, mosques, synagogues. All in one place. All with magnificent landscape and agriculture. Anything that you want you will see in front of your steps. There are other historical cities in our region as well. Some of them are Diyarbakir, Hasankeyf, Sanliurfa, Adiyaman, Sirnak, Gaziantep. In these cities you can “smell” culture and heritage all around you.

If I were you, I’d like to visit Southeastern Turkey at least once. If you want to see “the heart of culture,” there is no better place to look for but Mesopotamia!

Welcome to Southeastern Turkey , especially in Mardin my hometown.

Don’t be late. The next flight is waiting for you!
